When we read an email about a beautifully designed beach house in SoCal this morning, we feel impressed and delighted. It’s a Spanish colonial revival and redesigned by famed interior designer Barclay Butera. The design work is published at Traditional Home Spring Issue 2020.
Barclay used his signature blue and white color schemes at the foyer and private spaces of the home. Also, he repeated symmetry and balance through the whole house to create formality. Interesting enough, this is actually a second home near the water. But unlike conventional breezy and lay-back So-Cal beach houses, this house is the love for classical design.
We love the dark geometric-patterned wood floor at the foyer. A group of blue-and-white chinoisorie ginger jars and vases on a traditional center table set the tone for the whole house.
Can you imagine yourself sitting here in a breezy spring afternoon with to-the-ceiling sheer panelings whispering by your ear? We love everything French in this living room—a white fireplace with heavy ornaments, two linen-upholstered sofas flanking the fireplace, a French mirror that reflects the shimmering of a gilded classical crystal chandelier. And of course, the embroidered blue silk plush pillows on the sofas. The all-white kitchen is calm and relaxing and will not interrupt the beautiful ocean views outside. We love the modern classic chandelier over the dining table and the artwork in a gilded frame. The pale blue on the walls, trims and milk-work in this master bedroom is dyed for, creating such a quiet elegance. We love the marble, light-blue silk and roman shades in this master bath.
Guest rooms continue the shades of blue. We love the pillow designs, the details on the French bed and light blue table lamps.
