With bombarded news on Cov-19 on everyday, we are eagerly looking for some beautiful design that wow us and let us get away for a while yet still let us feel relevant and the comfy of home. Then we came across this redesign of a Newport home by Peter Dunham on Veranda Magazine. We got to know Pete through his fascinated textile collections —bright colors, sophisticated patterns , layered casual and vintage vibes , and his inspirational story how he got evolved to design from real estate industry.
The house is located in Newport, California and the home owners bought it more than 25 years ago. Not satisfied with the limited nature light thanks to the house’s traditional L shape, the home owners did several remodeling throughout years. and now theirs kids are all grown up and they would like to have some new exciting changes to start their new chapter in life. . The wife is gardener and love cooking. She entertains a lot outdoors. So, let’s have a tour on this charming adobe together.
Architect Bob White of Forest Studio did such a great job by moving the footprint forward on the lot to embrace a pool and open up more outdoor living and entertaining areas. In the picture above, we love how the new-built white pool house are against against a backdrop of big pines and eucalyptus just like a dreamy English country house.
And for indoors, the home owners hired Pete Dunhum to re-imagine their house because they love how he layers vintage with contemporary art. In the picture above of living room, we can see a large contemporary artwork by Jennifer Bartlett nicely contrasts with an antique mantle, vintage Syrie Maugham armchairs and a round ottoman which make the space collected and rooted.
From the picture above, this is totally Peter Dunham’s signature style—-vibrant Indian textiles, exotic furniture pieces all mix up with soft British parsley roman shades, mid-century modern wall cones in a warm and feminine backdrop of a warm peach wall paint. The color palette in this room is pulled out from a contemporary artwork on the wall to guarantee a cohesiveness in this space. We love the vibrant English cottage vibe in this space.
This all-white kitchen is definitely our favorite. The all-white color palette keeps the cool of a beach house while the natural wood on the chairs and hardwood flooring invite warmth to this kitchen. A custom-made brass-steel island range-hood is a focal point of the kitchen and also indicates that the wife is a serious cook.
Now it comes outdoor. We love this cute planting nook under the poolhouse stairs with a window to usher light into the workspace.
Textiles on this outdoor blue-stone banquette are just as sophisticated as indoors.
