6 Benefits of Organic Bedding

We are all pleased to see  a clouds of super relaxed and comfy cotton bedding in a dreamy  bedroom.  Bedding often serves as the statement piece around which an entire bedroom is designed.  But there’s a lot more to consider about bedding than just its thread count thanks to people’s more awareness of their own wellness nowadays. We have started to see organic  bedding has been increasing in popularity over the past decade.

So why  is organic bedding better for the consumer?
1. There are no chemicals or harsh pesticides in growing raw materials.

2. No finishing chemicals on the finished products. For example, when dye  sheets white, the organic bedding will not be bleach, instead, will get naturally white through  an oxidation process . A lot of people will use formaldehyde to get wrinkle-resistant sheets, so literally the fabrics are coated in that chemical, but not for organic bedding.

3. For a naturally soft sleep experience, organic bedding is the way to go. Regular cotton sheets and bedding aren’t known for their moisture-wicking ability, and they can keep you up tossing and turning on a warm summer’s night. Organic sheets, on the other hand, are incredibly breathable, which can result in a better night’s sleep.

4. It will soothe the skin.  We all want silky smooth skin. When it comes to shopping for bedding, you’ll want to choose a material that won’t irritate your skin, like organic cotton. Organic cotton is one of the best skin-friendly materials for your sheets and comforters because it does not contain irritating chemicals and dyes. This makes organic cotton a preferred fabric for newborns and anyone who has sensitive skin.

5. Organic bedding is not treated with flame retardants, commonly used in baby and kids products.

6. Organic cotton bedding is usually stronger and stands up to wear and tear better than conventional bedding, because chemical processing weakens the fiber.

There are a variety of ways to tell if bedding was made in an environmentally-friendly way, including Fair Trade certification, which guarantees the products have come from farms that provide fair wages and safe working conditions (including prohibiting forced child labor); the Global Organic Textile Standard, or GOTS, which ensures the organic status of materials from harvesting to labeling and requires environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing; and Oeko-Tex, a standard that tests for harmful substances used in dyes and finishes. These labels can speak to not only the quality of the material, but also how those materials were farmed, who they were farmed by and in what conditions they were manufactured. Sheets, for example, are often treated with the known carcinogen formaldehyde to help prevent wrinkles, but if a product features an Oeko-Tex label, it’s been deemed free of such harmful chemicals.
