Tour a California Coast Home with the Classic Blue-and-White Palette in a Modern Twist

The color of blue has been huge in the year of 2020. As matter of the fact, the color of blue has been always one of the most likeable colors by people globally. The magic often lies in how to play with pattern and texture to create a sophisticated and layered look in the sea of blue that is not only calm, soothing but also rich, warm and inviting, the way that we want our home to feel. Mark D. Sikies is one of the masters to often use blue-and-white palette to create a modern classic beauty in people’s life. Today we are going to tour his latest project for fashion designer Karen Kane . Mark Sikies re-imagined Karen’s dark and dated 1980 home in Pacific Palisades, California and transformed it into a relaxed and gracious Provençal estate with a vivid dance of blues and aged artisanal finishes. Here are some of our favorites.

Entry

Custom wrought-iron lanterns light the arched limestone entrance. From here, we are able to peek the sweeping staircase with a touch of blue.

The hand-painted tiles on the stair risers just blow us away. Those blue handcrafted tiles pair so well with Chinese blue-and-white by the side of the stairs. An Italian Moorish table with its intricate patterns breaks away from the blue and let our eye ease a little bit.

Living Room

The blue-and-white color palette repeats in the living room with layered pattern and different textile. A skirted blue sofa sets the tone for a classical flair. Yet English art-and-crafts chairs and coffee table are casual and relaxing. The idea of rug-on-rug is so cool and add an extra warmth and comfort to the space.

The fringes on the table skirt is elegant, intricate and sophisticated. It is always the small details like this that make a home more appreciated.

Kitchen

The creamy white kitchen is rather traditional. Yet, the stunning blue and white backsplashes are a truly art of work. The patterns on the backsplashes, shade and stripped area rug are kind of similar but still different enough to create interests.

Dining Room

Who wouldn’t agree that the color of blue can truly relax us? We feel calm and peace by just looking at this dining room. The trio parsley patterns play such a vital role in this upholstered dining room.

Home Office

It is such a good idea to use varied stripe patterns in blue in a home office–relaxing, playful yet still help keep the order visually.

Master Bedroom

We love the pattern-on-pattern in this blue-and-white bedroom. It’s soothing, fun and full of life.

Power Room

We love this hand-painted chinoiserie wallpaper in the power room which is quite characteristic and elegant.

Master-Bath

The sheer drapers make this master bathroom so dreamy.

Pool House Bath

The handcrafted blue tiles in a patched pattern on this pool bath walls are simply stunning and they help create one of those memorable moments by living in this house.
