7 Top Kitchen Sink Trends We Love

There are a range of colorful options for today’s kitchen sinks to make a statement or elevate the overall design. Theese kitchen sinks also function as the workhorses of the space, often accommodating a range of accessories to make food prep and entertaining a breeze. Current sink designs deliver various of looks, from sleek stainless undermounts to adorned and curved apron fronts. Metallic finishes are also statement makers, whether fused onto acrylic designs or handcrafted from copper and brass. Here are top 7 trends in kitchen sinks:

  1. Modern farmhouse is still going strong but with more color and finish optionsI(stainless steel, fireclay, porcelain, stone, copper, cast iron, concrete, graphite…).

There’s a lot of personal preference involved when choosing the best kitchen sink material. Here is brief info about each material :

Fireclay – Easy to clean and maintain, durable with a classic look. Fireclay sinks are crafted from ceramic clay. That’s dried at high heat and then fired in a kiln at an even higher temperature to fuse on a porcelain enamel outer layer. This process increases the durability of both the ceramic clay and porcelain enamel while giving the sink a glossy shine. This finish makes fireclay farmhouse sinks resistant to chips, scratches, fading, discoloration, and stains. Fireclay sinks are one of the easiest types of sinks to maintain, offering easy cleanup with nothing more than a sponge or cloth, although you can use more abrasive cleaners as needed.

Stainless Steel

As the most popular material for kitchen sinks, stainless steel offers one major benefit to consumers: affordability. The price of your stainless steel farmhouse sink will likely depend on the gauge or weight of the steel. The lower the gauge, the thicker the steel. Most steel farmhouse sinks have a gauge between 18 to 22 inches, but you can find them all the way from 15 to 24 inches. A heavier gauge may reduce sound and minimize dents, scratches, and other wear and tear.

Cast Iron

Cast iron seems like a natural fit for any rustic kitchen design, as it’s one of the oldest traditional materials still used today. A common debate is cast iron vs fireclay since they have similar qualities. Cast iron farmhouse sinks offer a pristine glossy enamel finish, which is made by melting glass that is fused on through the process of casting iron, to prevent rusting. While that finish may look sleek and smooth, it’s also incredibly durable and resistant to scratches. You’ll have an easy time keeping your cast iron farmhouse sink clean, as the material resists stains and water spots too.

Granite Composite

Granite composite farmhouse sinks are a mixture of either crushed quartz or granite with an acrylic resin filler. Typically these sinks are made from 80% stone and 20% resin.

  • Highly durable, resistant to scratches and stains
  • A wide range of color choices
  • Affordability
  • Do not require chemicals for cleaning

Copper

Copper is making a comeback in kitchen design, whether it’s through cabinetry hardware, faucets, and taps, or even a copper farmhouse sink. If you want to make a striking design statement, a copper farmhouse sink will give your space a truly rustic touch. Copper is naturally stain-resistant, rust-resistant and anti-microbial, killing bacteria to ensure your sink remains sanitary with next to no effort.

Stone

Natural stone gives an earthy yet polished look for your kitchen and can be used for both countertops and sinks. Stone farmhouse sinks are either made from a single solid slab of stone that’s been carved into a sink bowl or is made from stone slabs that have been combined and then formed into a sink. The natural qualities of stone sinks actually make them quieter than other materials

Porcelain

Porcelain, ceramic, or vitreous china sinks are one of the more traditional materials available for your farmhouse sink. Because of the longstanding popularity of porcelain as a sink material, ceramic farmhouse sinks tend to be very affordable and come in a vast array of styles and shapes, including virtually any color you can imagine.

Brass

Brass sinks have a classic, elegant look that works well whether your décor is traditional or modern. Their shiny, gold-like finish can seem downright decadent when compared to the utilitarian look of porcelain and stainless steel.

Durability: With proper care, brass sinks can literally last for decades. Brass is a very durable and corrosion-resistant material, less prone to rust and tarnish than zinc or other “pot metals.” Porcelain sinks can be damaged by impact, leading to surface failure (which means the sink will no longer hold water). A similar impact may dent or bend a brass sink, but it won’t compromise the surface.

Hygiene: Brass is made from copper and zinc, both of which are germicidal and antimicrobial. This means a brass sink, left on its own, will disinfect itself of most bacteria in a matter of hours.

Concrete

Concrete is an extremely versatile material in how it can be shaped and finished, so your home does not need an industrial design to suit a concrete sink. Everything from modern and contemporary, to rustic and country, even traditional designs can suit the many styles and colors of concrete sinks. Concrete is known for its strength and durability; that is why so much construction work relies on the use of concrete. You can expect a concrete kitchen or bathroom sink to last more than 50 years with regular care and maintenance. Each concrete sink is pre-sealed before it is shipped to your home, however, it is recommended to reseal the sink every ten years. Apply a polishing wax about once a month to help keep your sink in its best shape. If some blemishes occur to your concrete sink over time, repairing minor damage is simple. Concrete can be patched and resealed with a minimal amount of time and work.

5. Accessories are becoming important add ons, going beyond the colander and cutting board to include strainers, drying racks and a host of other options.

6. The range of sizes and configurations continues to expand, with compact sizes being designed for small kitchens and as secondary sinks, and extra-large and deep sinks providing ease of use for cleaning large pots and prep work.
