5 Benefits of French Door Refrigerators

We were talking about Signature Kitchen Suite’s industry-first 48-inch French Door refrigerator won Kitchen Gold at KBIS 2022 yesterday and you can click here to red the blog. According to Business Wire, In developed as well as developing economies, the presence of international as well as emerging players targeting their customers with cost-effective products integrated with the IoT (Internet of Things) technology is expected to fuel the demand for French door refrigerators in the next few years. So, today, we are going to talk about the history and benefits of French door refrigerators.

History of French Door Refrigerators

French door refrigerators are named after the architectural structure of French doors: they are refrigerators with the same features of French doors. These machines also have a bottom freezer door with a separate handle. French door refrigerators are fairly new in terms of appliances since they didn’t become widely available for sale until 2005. The main advantage of this type of refrigerator is that only one side of the fridge needs to be opened at one time. Each year, new models with more advanced features and functionalities are being released to the market.

Benefits of French Door Refrigerators

Convenience

Most French door fridges on the market have a single freezer drawer on the bottom so you can peer down from above, but some actually have multiple freezer drawers, which makes it easier to access everything. Some models even come with a middle drawer that you can adjust the temperature on to make it a fridge or a freezer, depending on your needs.

Make Your Kitchen Look Bigger

The double doors require less space to swing open, compared to the doors of top-freezer models, and the open design allows you to store large and bulky items, such as food trays and pizza boxes, where a side-by-side model wouldn’t fit them. The best part is that even though the doors take up less room, you’re not sacrificing any refrigeration space; it’s still a full-sized fridge. And an added bonus of the double doors is that they’re not as heavy as the single door (especially after you’ve loaded it up with milk cartons and bottles of soda).

Energy Efficient

French door refrigerators are more energy-efficient primarily due to their design. Since you open one side at a time, only one side needs to cool back down instead of the entire fridge. The effect is that less energy is needed to keep the refrigerator cool on a daily basis.

High Style

French door style has been one of the most popular in high-end kitchens for over a decade now, primarily due to its modern look and effective use of space. French door fridges are a subtle way of giving your kitchen that sleek, industrial look.

And talk about add-ons: A few of the options you can get on a French door fridge include external digital temperature controls, door bins, a door alarm, LED lighting, a serving drawer and an in-door TV (so you can watch “Cake Boss” while you bake your own masterpiece)

 Flexible Storage Options

One of the most frustrating things about any fridge model is not being able to fit the things you need to store. You can’t exactly fit a large box of leftover pizza in a side-by-side refrigerator because you only have half the width of the unit to use. And models with swinging door freezers aren’t great for stacking boxes and bags of frozen veggies because they tend to topple. But what the French door refrigerator does well is give you lots of options.

Since French-door refrigerators are so wide, there’s more shelf space to fill. The combination of wider shelves and door bins equals a better orientation in general, more top shelf space. You can also adjust the height of the top shelf so your food items will fit a lot easier.

The door bins in a French-door refrigerator are BIG, some are even large enough to fit gallon jugs! This feature saves the shelves for items that need to be stacked or spread out. Bottles belong in the door, now, you can store them there.

If you don’t have many frozen goods, but the ones you do have are boxed or compact, this is a perfect freezer for you. There’s also another added bonus worth mentioning — the chill drawer. Some French-door refrigerators have a drawer right above the freezer, which is fully adjustable. The temperature in this drawer can be changed to effectively cool deli platters and sheet cakes or soft freeze slushies and ice cream. Perfect for foods that need to need to be colder than others, but not so cold that they freeze solid.

Whether you’re doing a gut reno of your kitchen or just upgrading your appliances, chances are good that a new refrigerator will be one of your biggest ticket items. The good news: Stylewise, you can’t go wrong with a French door refrigerator. The two-door design is not only wonderful for organization, but it’s ideal for galley and small-space kitchens since skinnier doors are easier to open in a narrow passage. The catch? There are many superb models to choose from. Below are some of our favorites:
