Luna New Year Series 2—Behind-the-Scene Story for Our 2020 CLNY Tabletop

Every year we will design Chinese New Year tabletop theme. For lunar  New Year 2020, the year of the metal rat, we features the following elements:

  1. Color Palette—embrace Pantone Color of the Year 2020—Classic Blue with touch of traditional Chinese red and pastel pink to create a modern, intimate, chic and festive decor vibe. The large area of white paint in this eat-in space balance off Classic Blue and light up the whole area.  In this color palette, we have influences from Benjamin Moore Color of the Year 2020–First Light, DunEdwards Color of the Year 2020 –Mint Fresh and PPT color of the Year 2020—China Porcelain.

  2. Mix of modern and clean-line classical furniture to create a fresh, inviting, relaxing, comfy and feminine atmosphere where we are often drawn to for a holiday family get-together.

A banquette seating is trendy in any eat-in space, specially the corner area —it looks pretty neat, stylish and offer extra seats and storage for get-togethers.  The plush cushions, upholstered fabric and throw pillows together elevate the every-day eat-in spaces and bring in elegance.

6 ways to Master the Art of Mixing and Matching for Your Home Decor

We often have fun to mix  high and low, old and new and of course different aesthetics. Mixing of all kinds will add interest and character into the space.  In order to keep the cohesive vibe overall, we will have to  use some common elements to thread through the different layers.  And  here is the case study for the corner space for the project we recently designed. We would like to create a chic, fresh, elegant, polished decor  style while still keeping it inviting and cozy.  Here is how we did it—today, we are going to share 6 tips on how we artfully mix high and low, modern and classical, old and new to achieve this goal.

  1. Rule #1, always keep an overall color palette  neutral if you are going to take a mix& match approach.

5 Ways to Transform your Home with Beautiful Rugs

The weather drops so low in LA today. And this is just reminding us that winter is still here. Well, you might already take away all of your holiday decor that made your home cozy and warm. There is one magical item that you really should still keep it around. Yes, rug, please. As matter of the fact, you should keep several of rugs in your home–runner for your kitchen and hallway, a large area statement area rug for your living room, a faux fur rug for your relaxing corner and rug-on-rug-on-rug style to bring in  pattern, color and  some casual bohemian vibes.  In the following, we will talk about how different style of rugs can transform and elevate your home in a second.

  1. A touch of coziness.corner

For this newly designed project we just did recently, we throw a cream faux fur rug under a clean-lined modernized classical gilded chair to make the corner of this all-white room warm, cozy, inviting and romantic.

img_2688-1

For the study room project we did several years ago, we also had this faux fur rug by the window seat to create that a cozy and relaxing zone in the study.

2. A wow factor statement.

imgk7512

For this entry we did several years ago in Walnut, we used an emerald green silky rug with geometric lines to eco the circle design at the edge of the entry table.

housetour-entry

This is the entry for one of our holiday show-houses a couple of year ago. We love this large floral pattern rug at the entry to wow the guest.

3. To keep cohesive through rooms and holistic decor.

livingroomimg_2370-1

We did this modern house project last year. We actually keep the client’s Moroccan style rug and start to curate the whole house decor based on the color palette on the rug.

4. Add a  touch of whimsical and interest by stacking different rugs together casually.

modernclassicdiningroom15-1-1

For this new project we just did, we actually stack two rugs together to have that extra coziness.

We are really obsessed with layering different rugs together to create visual interest.

5. Transform your home with Scandinavia chic and cleaness.
