Red: Pair washed-up blue jeans with a red feminine ruffled top, finish the look with a on-trend woven handbag to create a chic, organic and festive summer vibe. This out will look great when you stroll around the city.
With the arrival of summer, we see cane, rattan, wicker objects from runway to home all over the internet.
So, what do you think? Do these woven handbags just put you in a vocation mood? These woven bags are seen to have their own charm—structured, functional, boho, artistic, vintage and unique. They can perfectly combine with any outfit, formal or non-formal with an understated relaxing elegance. Woven bags became popular in the 70s which was popularized by artist Jane Birkin that she wore for a walk. Then woven bags became a trend again in 2017 when several world designers showcased summer collections, such as Dolce & Gabbana, Charlotte Olimpia, Tory Bruch, Gucci and Chanel. In the year of 2020, these woven bags have became even increasingly popular thanks to their natural beauty. Maybe, we all desire to have a piece of nature to ground and calm us and keep us cool in this strange time.
Luxury brands are taking materials such as rattan, straw, raffia and canvas and treating them with the same care and attention as they would high-end materials. What’s more, they are employing techniques more commonly associated with cottage industries – such as weaving, macramé and crocheting – to create pieces with a more handmade appeal.

Happy Friday, guys! After the first 5 days of staying-at-home quarantine, you may want to relax a little and experience something exotic without leaving your comfort home. Today, we are continuing our global home tour series. Today is part II. You can click here to read part I.
Today, we will take you to tour Colombian fashion designer Johanna Ortiz’s Cartagena vocation home.
Cartagena is a port city on Colombia’s Caribbean coast. By the sea is the walled Old Town, founded in the 16th century, with squares, cobblestone streets and colorful colonial buildings. With a tropical climate, the city is also a popular beach destination. Reachable by boat are Isla de Barú, with white-sand beaches and palm trees, and the Islas del Rosario, known for their coral reefs.
You can see from the photos above, Cartegena is a vibrant town with a breathtaking view of Caribbean Sea and a lot of indigenous culture and crafts. It must be a lot of fun just strolling around here.
So here is the fashion designer– Johanna Ortiz standing at her front door of her vocation home which she comes to visit 7 times a year. The black-and-white color scheme of an ancient Chinese wood door and exterior walls sets the tone for a quiet understated resort.
Then comes a hallway where hand-made Mexican concrete flooring repeats the color scheme of black-and-white on the exteriors. Yet, a colonial antique wood table and wood-framed mirror together with local vintage pieces on the table add layers of warmth. A French crystal chandelier is romantic and sophisticated.

Here is her salon. We love a super long comfy modern sofa paired with a Chinese Ming dark wood coffee table. And a tiger print throw rug on the floor adds a modern flair to this space.
In her bedroom daybed area, comes her play on textiles—floral and geometric prints mingle happily here. The blue-and-white color scheme is peaceful, relaxing and pleasing to the eye.

The red chinosoriee on plush pillows, bed coverlet and chaise lounge chair are warm and inviting.
Here is our favorite space of the home–terrace under a vaulted brick ceiling. We could just sit here for a whole day. The mix of fine crystal glasses, vintage pieces and local crafts on a large Spanish table are just so striking.

Blue and white interior is always classical and timeless. A chic channeled dark-blue sofa adds modernity to this light and airy traditional living room. The way she dresses is perfect for this set–elegant, modern and relaxing.
For this picture above, the feminine light blue floral pattern on her dress echos with chinoisorie blue-and-white pillows on the sofa and blue-and-white vases on the wall.
Pink and peach dress adds a touch of softness and romance to the same vignette as above. People often say that your sofa often reflects who you are. Do you agree?
We love her pink floral dress in this modern mid-century room. Her dress is elegant and playful and make this space come alive.
Aerin loves floral pattern both in her home and on her dress. In the photo above, her large-scale floral dress nicely contrasts with a rather traditional parsley stair runner, creating a fresh feel in this vignette.

Diana von Furstenburg is a powerful woman not only in fashion industry but also an active philanthropist. She sits on the board of Vital Voices, an organization that empowers emerging women leaders and social entrepreneurs, and also serves as a Director of The Diller – von Furstenberg Family Foundation, through which the designer has donated to several important causes. Yesterday, in honor of International Women’s Day, she teamed up with Amazon to launch In Charge store featuring inspirational women-owned small businesses. You can click here to check out the details.
She described her design style for her fashion in 1985 “[There are] three essential F’s in designing for women…flattering, feminine, and, above all, functional.” And she loves life. So, we couldn’t help but wander what her homes look like. Luckily, Artuitect Digest visited her Manhattan home in 2017. So let’s take a look at designer’s Manhattan home together.
The living room showcases her intuitive take for mixing colors and patterns, elements that have defined her fashion style and brand. We love how she played a low-profile box mustard sofa with her own over-sized black-and-white portrait, chic black-and-white animal print pillows and various shapes of mid-century modern wood furniture at the white wall backdrop. The portrait is by Zhang Huan; Von Furstenberg created the leopard-spot carpeting for the Rug Company. The armchair is by Michael Graves. Photo Credits: Architectural Digest

A high style and playful home filled with well-collected art—above a vintage Salvador Dalí sofa is a Duong self-portrait; the sconces are by André Dubreuil, and the tables are by Alexandra von Furstenberg, Diane von Furstenberg’s daughter. we love this pink-on-pink color scheme. It is both flattering and feminine. A large-scaled leopard print rug anchors the space.

Functional is key— Surrounded by Franz West chairs, the Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann table in Von Furstenberg’s office/living area often does double duty as a desk and dining table. A Joan Miró etching, a Francesco Clemente painting, and family photographs are displayed on the windowsill. An Andy Warhol portrait of the designer is displayed near vintage chairs and a treelike table. We love this chic table setting–good for a conversation, a casual coffee break or for a reading.
So would you agree with us that her Manhattan home is bold, vibrant, a lot of mixed using of patterns and colors in an artful way just like her fashion statement?
