Spring House Tour—April

Fresh flowers, jewel tones, pastel color palette, floral patterns are the elements that make spring decor exciting, fresh and chic.  Here is the design project we did to perfect illustrate spring theme.  It’s feline, glamor, classical yet modern and well balanced off with masculine energy.

the lavender floral wallpaper perfectly plays with black-and-white checkered flooring.  It’s formal yet elegant with some drama.  Perfect for hallway design.

Spring makes us feel cheerful, fresh, hope,  and upbeat.  The design of this dining room drew inspiration from nature.  Lavender, pink, blush, green and red are all colors we find from spring gardens.  With a touch of French sophistication, we celebrate spring in this elegant and feminine room.

5 Keys to Create a Chic and Functional Home office

There are 5 keys to create a chic and functional home office:

  1. Have a solid floor plan to think through how you are going to use the space–working desk, lounge area, meeting zone…
  2. Have a chic color palette to make you focus yet relaxing.  The color palette in this project is pink, blue and black. It’s chic, youthful.
  3. Have one strong statement. We painted ceiling in pink. This makes the space very whimscal.
  4. Keep it symmetrical—the key to make small space look bigger and organized.
  5. Have greenery—green plants relax you and put you in a cheerful mood.

Spring Fresh Makeover

The weather has been really nice lately.  The roses in my backyard garden start to bloom.  And there was Valentine’s Day.  Therefore, I decided to do some spring make over a week ago.  The color palette I used here is magenta, pink,  lavender, gold and neutrals.  Here are some vignettes I love to share here:

Playing different shades of pink. Love the pale pink table cloth which makes everything look so soft and subtle.  Gold truly adds a touch of sophistication and class to any space.

Beautiful blooms from my backyard. I mixed purple and hot pink together.  It’s fashionable, chic and cheerful.

Before and After—Minimulism vs. Maximalism

I am so happy to read an article in the WSJ that “After decades of stark, formulaic interiors, design is giving way to maximalism—a luxurious riot of color and pattern.” You can read this article right here

A powder room is where you wow your guests.  This powder room features pink designer wallpaper, pale blue wainscot panelings, crown moldings, a Waterworks washstand, gilded Louis XVI gilded gold leaf mirror, a custom upholstered floral petite chair, modern marble floor and framed artworks.  The mix-and-match approach of layers, patterns and objects make the space intrigue, elegant and sophisticated.  The transformation from minimalism to maximalism truly deliver a big wow!

Lavender is Ladylike

Wouldn’t you agree with me that lavender is ladylike ?  It’s refreshing, chic and elegant.  It’s a symbol of spring garden.  When it reaches middle of February we are really looking forward to spring.  Lavender , blush, pale blue with the pops of bright yellow and  pink truly make this living room a heaven.  Mix-and-match of chinoiserie, stripes and bold exquisite geometric pattern on the sofa trims make the room formal, sophisticated and whimsical.

A Traditional Reading Room with a Modern Twist

In a rainy day,  we love to cuddle up in this cozy and elegant reading room. The classic snow-white on tufted chairs and silk drapes gives this traditional oak-paneled reading room an immediate #modern fresh-up.   Symmetrical design adds formality while pop of hot pink makes space whimsical and feminine.

A Mix-and-Match Living Room

From beginning of the year, we truly have fun to mix and match the room designs for the projects.  There are several key factors to bring everything together with harmony in a depth:

  1. Repeat the color palette to get the flow going.
  2. Use same colors but in different shades.
  3. Use same colors but in different textures.
  4. Laying the room to bring interest and depth to the room.
  5. Always pick up colors from area rugs or artworks for the rest of furnishings.
  6. Muted neutrals provide the best backdrop.

Here is a living room we just designed.  The patterns, textures and colors in the artwork is the key to inspire the overall decor.
