Tile Trends 2019 II

Hello, everyone, here is our part II tile trends in 2019.  If you haven’t red the part I, please click here to learn more

I  recently attended Daltile designer event for the showcase of new tile products.  I feel it is pretty amazing specially I can find the local manufactures who custom-made such fashionable and cool design tiles right here in our backyard.  Here are 2 of trends I observed from the showcase:

  1. Moroccan tile influence : Moroccan tiles are famous for its hand-made quality, its uniqueness,  fun patterns and craftsmanship. People start to bring these vibes to machine-made ceramic tiles with lower cost and much-faster lead time. Here are some samples I found  from the showcase:

Don’t you just like this  fashionable vintage color pairs : sky-blue and bright yellow in such a playful Moroccan-style geometric pattern.

Do you notice the chiseled edge? It’s quite boho and organic. I think these tiles can make a very adorable counter backsplash. Again, the pop of yellow make me feel cheerful.

This tile design is one of my favorites. I love the muted neutral color palette. This pattern can be quite classic and modern at the same time. It truly can make your kitchen stay timeless.

2. Color, color, color : there will be more bold colors for tile design in 2019.  I did a lot of grey tile projects in the past several years and I am open to some fashionable and bold colors.

I found coral and red at the showcase. The colors do make me feel excited:

This coral tiles will be perfect for a guest bathroom—warm and inviting.

What do you think of color of red. This red tiles will make a strong statement in a powder room.  I specially like the textured surface.

We will be in KBIS 2019 next week, please follow us on our Instagram story for more trend findings.

Before and After—Minimulism vs. Maximalism

I am so happy to read an article in the WSJ that “After decades of stark, formulaic interiors, design is giving way to maximalism—a luxurious riot of color and pattern.” You can read this article right here

A powder room is where you wow your guests.  This powder room features pink designer wallpaper, pale blue wainscot panelings, crown moldings, a Waterworks washstand, gilded Louis XVI gilded gold leaf mirror, a custom upholstered floral petite chair, modern marble floor and framed artworks.  The mix-and-match approach of layers, patterns and objects make the space intrigue, elegant and sophisticated.  The transformation from minimalism to maximalism truly deliver a big wow!

It’s Friday

fridaymasterbath

It’s Friday!   We have a beautiful sunny day today here in SoCal!  Do you have any big plan for your Friday?  We finally finished installation for this master bath.  The client loves the tile work and pink chinoiserie wallpaper.  And of course the vanity and seating zone.  Here are 6 ways for us to create such a relaxing retreat.

  1. Always have the best and newest tile design in the master bath.  You know you will probably not going to do any works in the next 10 years. Plus what other places would you like to show off the beautiful tile work?
  2. Choose high-fashion vanity.  You know what I am talking about, not standard, plain wood cabinet.  We want elegant furniture in the master bath.
  3. Go for wallpaper.  It’s like you dress up your master bath.  It’s high fashion.
  4. Set up a relaxing seating area.  It’s cozy and inviting.
  5. Have drapery installed.  It’s more formal and lady-like.  It actually make the space look bigger and soothier.
  6. Have the good lighting design because you want to look good when you see yourself in the mirror.

Stay fresh and happy Friday!

7 Techniques to Create an Upscale Master-bath

Every time when I work on the new project, I always try to do something different. Here is the master-bath project we just did recently.  The client has been my inspiration. It is really great to have clients who can push me to become better.  There are 7 interesting ideas I would love to share with you to create such an upscale and elegant master bath you can truly enjoy and relax!

  1. Always wrap the master bath with tiles or natural stones  from the floor to walls for the function reason and beauty as well. We used Italian marble for the floor.  The subtle and elegant veins and cream color immediately create such a soothe atmosphere to anchor the room. The floral mosaic wall echoes the same relaxing tone yet with very feminine floral design to create low-tone luxury.

  2. When the space is available and plumbing situation allows, always consider to have a free-standing bath tub.  The exposed curve adds a touch of elegance to the space. There is a great flexibility to place the tub at any location.
  3. Have a stylish linen cabinet.  It adds more storage space.  The one we have here is Baroque style. It looks much more personalized and upscale to have a furniture-like cabinet rather than the built-in one.
  4. Have a tray cart next to your tub. It is pretty handy for your towels and drinks when you take a bath.  Such a wonderful life style at home.

A Powder Room Transformation

Inviting, feminine and elegant
Inviting, feminine and elegant

The powder room is really not that big at all: 72″ x 72″. The renovation idea is to make it as stylish as possible in such a small space. Design features include:

1. Neutral yet high gloss large-format tiles on the floor and wall open the space.

2. The color scheme of crisp white, gray and cream with a touch of gold and blush creates low-tone luxury atmosphere.

3. Large floral mosaic on the side wall and the same pattern insert on the focal wall are truly the drama in an elegant way.

4. Artwork  with the gold frame makes the room interesting.

5. Having a little blush vanity chair in the corner is very inviting.

The fantasy comes true.

I hope you enjoy this little tour.  Please let me know what you think.

All the Best
