Happy Friday, guys! After the first 5 days of staying-at-home quarantine, you may want to relax a little and experience something exotic without leaving your comfort home. Today, we are continuing our global home tour series. Today is part II. You can click here to read part I.
Today, we will take you to tour Colombian fashion designer Johanna Ortiz’s Cartagena vocation home.
Cartagena is a port city on Colombia’s Caribbean coast. By the sea is the walled Old Town, founded in the 16th century, with squares, cobblestone streets and colorful colonial buildings. With a tropical climate, the city is also a popular beach destination. Reachable by boat are Isla de Barú, with white-sand beaches and palm trees, and the Islas del Rosario, known for their coral reefs.
You can see from the photos above, Cartegena is a vibrant town with a breathtaking view of Caribbean Sea and a lot of indigenous culture and crafts. It must be a lot of fun just strolling around here.
So here is the fashion designer– Johanna Ortiz standing at her front door of her vocation home which she comes to visit 7 times a year. The black-and-white color scheme of an ancient Chinese wood door and exterior walls sets the tone for a quiet understated resort.
Then comes a hallway where hand-made Mexican concrete flooring repeats the color scheme of black-and-white on the exteriors. Yet, a colonial antique wood table and wood-framed mirror together with local vintage pieces on the table add layers of warmth. A French crystal chandelier is romantic and sophisticated.

Here is her salon. We love a super long comfy modern sofa paired with a Chinese Ming dark wood coffee table. And a tiger print throw rug on the floor adds a modern flair to this space.
In her bedroom daybed area, comes her play on textiles—floral and geometric prints mingle happily here. The blue-and-white color scheme is peaceful, relaxing and pleasing to the eye.
Dusty-pink roses in this Chinese blue-and-white porcelain vase is feminine and elegant
The red chinosoriee on plush pillows, bed coverlet and chaise lounge chair are warm and inviting.
Here is our favorite space of the home–terrace under a vaulted brick ceiling. We could just sit here for a whole day. The mix of fine crystal glasses, vintage pieces and local crafts on a large Spanish table are just so striking.

Ortiz’s love of fashion actually stems from her passion for interiors, which is evident in both her clothing creations—she is known for her pattern choices and often sources fabrics from vintage textiles—and her Cartagena vacation home of 13 years. She captures the sultry, sophisticated South American spirit.Check out her lipstick collection with Aerin Lauder and her fashion dresses(click each image for product details):
