House Tour—-A Fashionable Home at Greenwich Village

Our recent blogs have featured homes with a light and airy vibe. Today, we decide to go to a different style—a home with a fashionable flair by using  colors. Why not? Color is a therapy that heal us and make us feel good.  We have included color in one of principles of wellness at home .  Here are the highlights of our favorite spaces.

Entry

From the entry, you probably won’t tell this is going be a colorful home.  Instead a large silver artwork by Anselm Reyle and a geometric black console and dark brown round mirror make a statement by  forms and  rather keep the color palette simple and neutral. We can feel a very masculine energy here.

Library

The neutral palette continues in the living room. But here, two of white curved sofa create a very inviting, cozy and elegant atmosphere here. We feel the feminine energy here. We love how chic and stylish side tables and ottoman with jewel-tone colors just casually sit around those two of the curved white sofa . They are just like beautiful and adorable accessories for this home.

Now color starts to play in this family library. The blue color here is exciting yet very calming too. The colors on walls  and furniture pull out the color palette from an abstract artwork atop the fireplace to grantee a harmonious and cohesive feel even though bold colors are applied in this space.

Reading Area

We love this warm pink on two of  these reading settees.

Bar

A black bar cabinet and a black vase on top of is understate yet stylish and also well uses the niche space  here.

Dining Area

This blue wall by the dining area is opposite the above blue wall. So the key to use a bold color  still keeping a balanced and harmonious feel is to repeat the color in a symmetric way.  Those hanging little pendants above the dining table are just like jewels for this home. The warm brown on the velvet dining chairs is inviting and nicely contrasts with and well balances off the blue  on the walls here.

Before and After—5 Tips to Decorate Christmas in a Fashionable Way

Hello, December!  Christmas decorations are  in full force. No matter what’s you mood and how busy you are, it’s really up to you to make any holiday season festive, happy and special.  There is only one Christmas a year.  Why not make it beautiful?   If you are not into big construction work, there are so many different ways to decorate your houses in this holiday season.  Here is our project  I would love to share with you :

There are 5 steps we did for this project:

  1. Change the wall color from the old  dull yellowish color to cheerful  candy pink—it’s youthful, feminine and elegant. The traditional Regency  walnut breakfast table, Louis-XVI chairs and trimmed upholstered sectional sofa add a touch of classic  and make the space more grow-up.
  2. Add a cream faux fur area rug to make the room cozy and inviting.
  3. We go all natural from Christmas tree, green branches around beams to dried fruit wreath at the back of the chairs.  It’s more fun, inspiring to play with natural materials. Here are some guidelines on how to take care of real Christmas trees.
  4.  Have some modern brass lighting fixtures   to make the room dazzle–it can truly fresh up an old space immediately.tableandlamp.jpg
  5. Make your table display festive and beautiful—it’s show time.tabletop

Happy December!

8 Steps to Transform a living Room

before

after-2

The house is located in West LA. The client bought it last year and decided to give it a face-lift without too much construction going on. Even though the house was in a shabby condition, it has a very good bone. We decided to keep most of its original structures.  Modern classic  is what we  came up with and we believe the style will truly reflect client’s taste. Here are the major features we did for the living room:

1.  Replaced the original carpet with dark walnut wood flooring to ground the room with a timeless classic style.

2. Removed the drop ceiling to make the space airy.

3. Installed wall panels and painted them in Tiffany Blue—fashionable yet classy.  All moldings and trims were also painted in Tiffany Blue.  Applying the same color on the trims and walls will unify the whole room and create tranquil backdrop for the later furnishings.

4. Installed new marble mantle.  The color and the vein on the marble are  kind of talking to the rest furnishings.

5. Applied different shades and textures of cream and gray on furniture to layer the space without tiring eyes.

6. Furnishing the room with modern pieces such as the art over the fireplace and  tailored light-gray roman shades.

7. The big floral pattern on the area rug contrasts with all neutrals and adds a sense of playfulness.

8. Fresh floral arrangements and green plants bring the life into the space.

Please let us know what you think.  If you are interested in getting the whole room  look or any pieces we used here, please email  us at y.a.hong@hotmail.com.

Thank You

Kristi
