Today, we will take you to tour Colombian fashion designer Johanna Ortiz’s Cartagena vocation home.
Cartagena is a port city on Colombia’s Caribbean coast. By the sea is the walled Old Town, founded in the 16th century, with squares, cobblestone streets and colorful colonial buildings. With a tropical climate, the city is also a popular beach destination. Reachable by boat are Isla de Barú, with white-sand beaches and palm trees, and the Islas del Rosario, known for their coral reefs.
You can see from the photos above, Cartegena is a vibrant town with a breathtaking view of Caribbean Sea and a lot of indigenous culture and crafts. It must be a lot of fun just strolling around here.
So here is the fashion designer– Johanna Ortiz standing at her front door of her vocation home which she comes to visit 7 times a year. The black-and-white color scheme of an ancient Chinese wood door and exterior walls sets the tone for a quiet understated resort.
Then comes a hallway where hand-made Mexican concrete flooring repeats the color scheme of black-and-white on the exteriors. Yet, a colonial antique wood table and wood-framed mirror together with local vintage pieces on the table add layers of warmth. A French crystal chandelier is romantic and sophisticated.
Here is her salon. We love a super long comfy modern sofa paired with a Chinese Ming dark wood coffee table. And a tiger print throw rug on the floor adds a modern flair to this space.
In her bedroom daybed area, comes her play on textiles—floral and geometric prints mingle happily here. The blue-and-white color scheme is peaceful, relaxing and pleasing to the eye.
Dusty-pink roses in this Chinese blue-and-white porcelain vase is feminine and elegant
The red chinosoriee on plush pillows, bed coverlet and chaise lounge chair are warm and inviting.
Here is our favorite space of the home–terrace under a vaulted brick ceiling. We could just sit here for a whole day. The mix of fine crystal glasses, vintage pieces and local crafts on a large Spanish table are just so striking.

Ortiz’s love of fashion actually stems from her passion for interiors, which is evident in both her clothing creations—she is known for her pattern choices and often sources fabrics from vintage textiles—and her Cartagena vacation home of 13 years. At this special time, most of us probably cannot travel far away to see and explore different cultures. But thanks to internet, we are able to virtually experience some of the most amazing exotic destinations to cope with life that is full of uncertainties. Today, we are going to share with you a beautiful Lebanon getaway that is our love at the first sight.
Located in in the mountains near Kfour, a village about 45 minutes north of Beirut, the Beit Trad guesthouse , a traditional Lebanese mountain home that Sarah Trad restored and converted into a guesthouse with the help of architect Fadlo Dagher and interior designer Maria Ousseimi welcomes guests with its Lebanese tradition of hospitality. The guest house also doubles as Sarah’s own personal retreat.
In the picture above, we love how sumptuous Rubelli velvet fabric and modern Saarinen table and chairs juxtaposes with old world vintage pieces such as an antique rug, a chandelier and wall prints. The mix of present and past always injects interest and personality to any space. What really draw us to this living room is its cheerful and fashion-forward red, plump and purple color palette which stands out from a white wall backdrop. What cannot be better to sit in a beautiful room with fresh flowers, a lot of books, artwork and vintage pieces and of course sunshine.
In the above picture, we are really impressed by a Classic Blue tablecloth with vintage local prints serves as a canvas to showcase the delicate dinnerware and beautiful local roses. Different tasteful textiles on the dining chairs in similar color families add visual interest yet still stay cohesive. When things aren’t right in the world, wouldn’t be nice to just sit at a beautiful cozy table to take time to enjoy a meal or have a cup of tea?
Who wouldn’t love to sit here to enjoy a breathtaking Mediterranean sunset view? A striped upholstered cushy lounge chair invites us to take a seat on it with a cocktail. The mood here is casual and relaxing.
