We are impressed by how the design team transformed this 1980s Georgian-style home with high glamor and edge while keeping its classical bone. The house was originally designed by local architect Paul Turney and built to such a high level. So the design team decided just to add new flooring and windows with larger panes, an iron stair rail in lieu of a more traditional wooden version, and a stone surround for the front door rather than tearing down the original structure. Other changes include opening up the kitchen and incorporating an adjacent family room, reconfiguring the master bathroom and adding a covered back patio for easier outdoor living. Here are highlights of our favorite spaces. Let’s take a tour together.
We talked about how color, light, plants, air quality, noise reduction..etc affect our well being at home in our recent blog series of 7 Ways to Design Wellness at Home. You can click here for part I , click here for part II , and click here for part III. The more time we spend at home, the more important we feel home is to us. Today, we are going to talk about one more important factor that will affect how we feel at home—the scent. We often say Stop to Smell Roses. The sweet and fresh scent of those fresh roses often relaxes us and puts a big smile on our face in a second—that is the magical power of the natural fragrance. Throughout history, fragrance has been used as a way to delight the senses. Some of the first known uses of fragrances date back to the times of the ancient Egyptians. The Egyptians began incorporating fragrances and natural plants into ointments and other medical aids. The use of these fragrances and oils for medicinal purposes was the beginning of aromatherapy. We now use scented candles, herbs, plants and flowers and diffuser to make our home smell great, not just for reducing nasty smells, helping clean the air of unwanted smells, but for improving our well being as aromatherapy.

With most of us staying at home over 7 weeks, we more and more realize how important our home is to us, specially a healthy home. By this coming Friday, some businesses in California will be re-open. But we know it will take a while to go back the normal. And one of the facts of the new normal is that we will still have to spend more time at home. That being said, it may be a good idea to think a little bit deeper on how to create a home environment that makes us feel relaxing, soothing, comfortable and healthy. Rooms that inspire wellness create more comfortable and livable space for our daily routines. So, a healthy home is the foundation for a healthy life.
From today, we are going to talk 7ways to design wellness at home
