An Environment International study found that some older couches may be emitting a potentially carcinogenic dust.
For homeowners who also happen to be pet lovers, few things are more frustrating than the constant war between a sofa’s well-kept appearance and the furry friends who shed on it. But as it turns out, we may have more to fear from what our couches themselves are emitting—especially for fans of ’70s vintage design. That revelation comes courtesy of newly published research in Environment International, which analyzed in-home dust samples to determine that sofas made between 1975 and at least 2013 have a tendency to disperse what can amount to carcinogenic dust. The culprit? Flame retardant (or “F.R.”) chemicals, which the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences says may cause cancer in addition to posing other adverse health effects. In a handful of the dust samples collected across more than 20 households available for all four measurement periods of the study, multiple flame retardants were found in concentrations greater than 1,000 parts per million.
When the weather is warm and sunny, who wouldn’t want to have a nice outdoor brunch? Since we did pretty hard hike on Saturday. So we decided to have a simple backyard brunch after our routine running on Sunday.
When we came across this airy SoHo loft on internet today, it is such an eye-opening experience for us. Yes, the magical just happens when the modern Italian design flirts with tradition. Let’s take a look together.
In the foyer, the vintage Billy Baldwin X-bench holding a vintage Gucci bowl sets a whimsical tone for the overall design theme. The floral arrangements in Dior vintage vases are casual, loose yet beautiful. The boar’s skull sculpture and the mirror add character to the foyer. The take-away design lesson in this foyer is to always hunt the things you love and treasure and create special vignettes by layering them up.
With spring just around the corner, in case you are planning to refresh up the home, today we are going to share 5 trends for living room in 2021.
Warmer color palettes. As we spend more time at home than ever before, we pay more attention to our home and color nomally comes first. Color often affects how we feel–light, happy, moody, romantic and enveloped. A warmer color palette is on-trend in the year of 2021 since warmer color tones make us feel cozy, relaxing, safer and grounded.
Oatmeal, chocate brown , tan and cream combined with plush textiles create a very comfy environment for us to lean to, rejuvenate and get away specially in the uncertain times.
2. Green starts to pop up among natural earthy tones to enliven any space –a hopeful message to look upto the bright future.
3. Old-world charm. Instead of stark minimalism or mid-century modern, the furnishings with old-world charm and vintage vibes are becoming the star since they bring us a sense of comfort and famililarity in the uncertain time. It is also because we are intending to create a more interesting living space by adding details to please our eye. Pieces like heir-loom antiques, classical-framed artwork, skirted table-cloth, ruffled sofa covers, vintage area rugs, unique classical-form chairs, chinoserie wallpaper, antique mirrors will help create an unique and personalized living space to enjoy.
4. Knotted light fixtures add drama and natural element to create a eye-catching focal point and coastal feel. Who wouldn’t want it specially when we still cannot travel far away?
5. Yes, a touch of yellow, please.
Yellow is Pantntone color of the year 2021. It is a happy color and will add a touch of sunshine to any space. We love to pair yellow with green, grey, brown or blush to create a very fashion-forward living space.
5. Soft edges and curved shapes create a more harmonious and relaxing living space.

Three days ago, Megan and her husband Prince Harry were sitting with Oprah outdoors in a garden in Montecito, north of Los Angeles. They are the neighbor to Oprah there, but the interview, which aired on CBS on Sunday night, took place at another neighbor’s house.
Besides some of the bombshell news we all knew now, if you sit through those 2-hour interview, you might be just like us and cannot help noticing the beautiful outdoor setting with the typical lush Southern California landscaping and the comfortable outdoor chairs.
First of all, we love the overall toner color scheme of this outdoor setting—the neutrals of grey, white and beige from nature. The colors on the furniture and the area rug echo the hues on the masonry flooring, which makes the outdoor living space very cohesive and harmonious and perfect for carrying any conversation. We also love the pattern on the area rug. It does make this outdoor space warm and inviting.
The nature-fiber like outdoor chairs they sit on look very cushy and comfortable. The wicker-like back and the wood frame design have the organic feel. The dotted potted plants is such a simple way to add interest to the setting without causing too much noise.
We like the low-profile of the round outdoor table which encourages a good conversation without blocking any views.
Since spring is coming, you may get inspired to plan your own outdoor living space. If so, we have good news for you here. You can purchase those chairs on Amazon and here are the details for the chairs:
Chair’s back and seat cushions are nonporous and water-resistant, making cleaning any spill a breeze. (Please note that these cushions are water-resistant and not waterproof. Please do not submerge in water.)
Each chair is 27.50” W x 29.50” D x 34.40” H. .The 29.5 inches sear depth means you can easily sink into the seat comfortably for a good conversation, a good read or a good nap.
ACACIA WOOD: Made with acacia wood that brings a sleek and exotic look to your space, this durable hardwood naturally withstands outdoor elements and will not darken over time. Acacia wood is perfect as a solid, heavy frame that resists wear and tear.
POLYETHYLENE RATTAN: Featuring a long-lasting woven finish, this style is not only incredibly durable but also provides a versatile appearance. The handcrafted details of this material allow this piece to blend seamlessly with your outdoor decor.
SLAT DESIGN: The seating features beautiful open slat paneling, giving this set a sophisticated, classic look. This matches perfectly with the open backrest structure and rounded frame, offering this chair set a wonderfully homey feel to your decor.
Just a little caring tip here : These chairs are great for year-round outdoor enjoyment if you live in a very sunny, dry climate like Los Angeles. If you live somewhere with a lot of rain, you’ll need to take extra care that you’re cleaning the wood diligently and bringing the cushions indoors when it rains. In the off-season, these seats should be covered and put in storage to prevent deterioration. Acacia wood tends to turn gray if left untreated and uncleaned over time.
We visited a little botanic garden yesterday. At a first look, it seems that there is nothing happening. But when we turned around and took a close look, then magical just happened. We saw the beautiful spring flowers with the most amazing color and shape are quietly blooming in the soft late afternoon spring sunshine. Then we found more and more amazing spring blooms almost on every single branch. We were puzzled that why we didn’t see them at all at the very beginning. Maybe we have to quiet our mind first and then able to see the beautiful things that we can’t see when we are in a hurry or when we feel anxious. This philosophy also applies when we design our home. When there are too many options and we just don’t know which one to choose, maybe it is the time for us to step back and take a deep breath, just ask ourselves a simple question: which one pleases my mind?
Here are some of the photos we took from yesterday’s visit. Please enjoy!
Nature has the most amazing colors. We love this blueish purple. The different shades of blue and purple make a fashion-forward interior.
Today we are going to tour a charming London townhouse. It’s a modern house with classical bones and a bit of British humor.
We like the grey and pearl color palette with a subtle pop of blue here in the entry. The feeling here is open, airy yet inviting and grounded thanks to a striking spiral staircase design, abundance of natural light, soft velvet fabric on the round settee and a traditional wood flooring.
Reschio is a new hotel in Italy and will be open this year. We came across this beautifully designed hotel during our new year holiday weekends and fell in love with it . We love the color schemes, amazing local craftsmanship, the organic approach of using materials, the art of mixing of old-world charm and contemporary pieces and the romantic country vibes. Here are some of our favorite designs.
We love the organic stucco walls. They are truly an old-word charm and have an underestimated beauty.
We came across this beautiful Fifth Avenue home and instantly fell in love with it thanks to its serenity and fashion-forward color palette that make us dream again. After all, it is the holiday season and our eye needs to be pleased with cheerful visual surprises.
