3 Trends of High-end Rugs

Often, we like to start an interior design project from a rug the client  falls in love with. We  pick up  the textures, colors and patterns in the rug design for the rest of the house. Therefore, choosing a right rug plays such an important role in defining any room style.  Here are 3 trends of high-end rugs:

  1. Unique design.  More and more people nowadays don’t really want those products served for the mass market–same design, same technique… Rather they prefer something different and has wow factors.

5 Ways to Bring Florals to Home

One of the trends in the recent years is that people more prefer the modern interiors with soften touches. These can be  soften color palettes,  silk or velvet fabric choices or floral patterns on textiles, decor objects or surfaces.  The floral patterns can work as an magic wand for any interiors.  They light up the home with a touch of elegancy.  The keys to make them look fresh are 1)just use right amounts of the patterns; 2) have a contrast with surroundings; 3) with a modern twist.

In case you are in the process to bring more spring cheers to home, there are 5 ways to bring  florals to home:

  1. Upholster an accent chair with floral-patterned fabric to live up any rather darkened spaces.

4 Trends for Home decor in 2019

From the beginning of 2019, we have been constantly studying the decor trends by going to all sorts of trade events.  It is true that you should always choose what speaks to you. However by understanding what’s going on in the market, you can always find some better ways to express yourself. Since spring is here, it is a perfect time to fresh up your home.  Here are 4 trends we have observed so far and love to share them here in our blog.  Hope you find them useful for your projects.

  1. Chinossorie.

A touch of oriental decor, it doesn’t matter it is a vase, a fabric print, a painting, always adds a touch of whimsical to any space. Just remember, a little bit is just enough. after all, you are not an antique store.

A small piggy sculpture, or a jar always adds an interest to any space and they will always remind you that —it is a year of prosperity and keep you positive.

3. Modern classic.

Yes, we still love minimalism but in a different way. We like clean-lines but with curved forms and a lot of classic details.  Yes, we are in  love with modern decor with sophistication.

LA Street Style I

Spring is here. The warmer weather and blooms magically  put everyone  in a very cheerful mood.  So, we took the opportunity and wander around LA street to immerse ourselves in the season and get inspired.

STREET3
I always have a thing about bicycles. I love purple and flowers in this picture! It’s a dream if I can just ride a bicycle with full blooms in a small quiet beach town.  If you happen to plan some make-over for your home, lilac is one of the good choices. I specially like lilac in matte finish.  And also, remember have some fresh flowers at home!   They will make you feel much happier!
STREET1
It’s a late afternoon. I like how the sun shines on the industrial building creating interesting shadows. This hot pink minimalism bench is such a eye candy in  contrast with the grayish industrial surroundings. Spring finally broke through the coldness and is here with a little bit surprise and cheer. Take -away— for your interiors, don’t just pile things up,  rather intentionly  layer different things through creating interesting contrast!
STREET2
Graffiti on LA street is always my inspiration.  Take-away for interiors: please always have some artworks for your home. They are the soul for each space. They make your lifestyle much deeper.

Wood just brings the warmth for this high-ceiling modern space with a lot of whites.

5 Trends of High-end Lighting 2019 Spring

One of the most exciting elements in the design world is lighting thanks to the fast-growing LED technologies. Only couple of years ago, I still had difficulty to find really cool design-oriented LED chandeliers. But, obviously not now.  With advanced LED technologies, we have more freedom to design whatever forms and shapes we want in a non-traditional  way. Here are 5 trends for high-end lighting fixtures  I summarized after attending  several trade shows recently:

  1. LED lighting with different temperature colors.
  2. Sculptural pieces to make a statement;
  3. Large size with multi-materials;
  4. Hand-made;
  5. Details, details, details

Check out the following video to find out what’s cool in high-end lighting by yourself

A Beautiful Tabletop

It’s middle of the week again. I hope you are all doing very well. I have couple of design projects going on simultaneously. I feel a little bit overwhelming and look for some inspiration to  just keep myself going.  I started to organize the photos for the events I have been to recently. I found something that really lights up my day—yes, a beautiful tabletop.  I guess color and fresh flowers always stimulate my brain to release more endorphin and make me feel happy. I hope you feel the same way too.

9 Bath Trends from KBIS2019—Series 2

Hi guys, here is our series 2 take-aways from KBIS2019 —we are going to highlight 9 trends in bath from what we saw at KBIS2019.  There are are tons of new colors, new finishes, new technologies, new designs…In order  to illustrate how cool all of these new things are,  we will incorporate a lot of visual effects here.  So, we would apologize here first  if you feel there are just too much of them.  Anyway,  it’s time to grab  a cup of coffee or glass of wine, sit back and just  enjoy.

  1. Color, color, color. You may just see either white or beige for lavatory sink finish options  in your local home improvement stores, but definitely not here in KBIS:IMG_4699.jpgThese lavatory sinks are made out of fireclay and stain-resistant. We love these warm tones which give design more options, specially for making a statement in the powder rooms.

3. Heated bubble massage tub:

IMG_4864.2019-03-26 16_01_06.gif
Heated bubble massage  is far more gentle and soothier  than the regular whirlpool jet massage. Everyone needs this at end of the work day.

4. Creative LED lighting application

5 Trends From Boutique Hotels to Home

Wouldn’t you agree with me If life is about to open curiosity of cabinetry, life will be more fun. I guess that might be the reason that I enjoy design career so much.

My Movie 218.2019-03-15 17_58_02.gif

I recently went to BD West —-a boutique hotel design show in the west coast to check out what’s new & trendy in hospitality design industry and also would like to get some fresh ideas that I am  able to apply for home or whatever the projects  in the future.

Here are some pretty cool trends I got from the show:

  1. It’s about luxury experiences:
IMG_5477-1.jpg
Luxury Experience #1—Comfy with a touch of luxury.  This black velvet upholstered club chair is light, stylish and super comfortable.  Love, love the sheen on the black velvet—such a luxury!

2. It’s about having fun:

IMG_5499-1.jpg
Luxury Experience #2—a fun atmosphere.   Duo chandeliers, the gourmet cocktails, the stylish bar setup and moody candles—these all set up a good mood for a chill-out  and cocktail party.  And similarly,  kitchen island area is also the most popular spot at home. So embrace some cool components and make this area a drama!

3. Play with patterns and forms

IMG_5495-1.jpg
Love love this black striped garden chair with this cute form.

4. Of course, Pantone color of the year 2019

IMG_5493-1.jpg
The more I look at Pantone color of the year 2019, the more I like it. It is fresh, warm and inviting. Of course the color here is a lighter version of Pantone Color of the year 2019. I love how their pair the color with brass and the artwork with a lot of black—it’s kind of cool.

5. Last but not the least—-customization, customization and customization.

It’s good to know even in hospitality industry, owners try to develop their own brands and customize whatever possible.  It looks like nobody like cookie-cutters. And one of the things they do customization is using unique decor by hiring local artists.

A Beautiful tabletop in Sun-filled Room

Finally, rain stops and sun is out. And most importantly, the weather is finally getting warm up to 70 degree in Los Angeles. I know it has been a weird cold for a very long time since last Nov.  I think I prefer the warmer weather with a lot sunshines. Who wouldn’t?

Well, it is March and spring is just around the corner and Easter is coming soon. I just cannot wait to put up a beautiful outdoor tabletop for entertaining with some fresh color palettes and romantic components.  What about you?

So, I decided to go through some photos and videos from the events we  have been to recently for inspiration.  Then I found this video I shot—I wish I could have done it better.  Maybe next time.  But the whole set-up, organic components, the sun-lights, crystals and yummy cookies in pastel colors and of course fresh flower pedals really talk to me.   I love how they have a large wood branch as a center piece with elegant crystal sculptures scattering  around.  The contrast between organic elements and high-polished items creates such a beautiful , moody,  refined yet relaxed and casual atmosphere.  And fresh flower pedals all over the table are just such a romantic touch. It’s a dream afternoon.

Cool Technologies from KBIS2019 Series 1–Sous Vide cooking

It has been 2 weeks since the closing of KBIS 2019.  There are just so much information we got from the show and it does take time to digest everything.  Meanwhile, I read some articles about trends from the KBIS show. Yes, there is a sea of  info out there.  I think that may be a good approach if I just share some cool technologies and ideas  that really blew me away in a series and really go deep on each topic rather than writing kind of general for everything.

So, today , I will share one take-away— Series 1 from KBIS2019Signature Kitchen suite‘s new feature for the residential range cooking—Sous Vide. First of all,  from what I learned, this built-in Sous Vide feature might just be exclusive to Signature Kitchen suite Duo 48″ by now.  And  I am sure that other brands will catch up soon.  Second, if you are just like me, never heard Sous Vide before, don’t worry. We are going to learn this new way of cooking together here.

Ok, well, the words of Sous Vide, not surprisingly is a  French term for “under vacuum”.  Sous Vide  is a method of cooking in which food is placed in a plastic pouch or a glass jar and cooked in a water bath for longer than normal cooking times  at an accurately regulated temperature. The temperature is much lower than normally used for cooking, typically around 55 to 60 °C (131 to 140 °F) for meat, higher for vegetables. The intent is to cook the item evenly, ensuring that the inside is properly cooked without overcooking the outside, and to retain moisture” —quote from Wikipedia

Simply put,  sous Vide is to cook your vacummed and sealed  food in a water bath with a precisely controlled and lower than regular temperature(the lower temperature can retain nutrients better).  You might already  experience the evenly cooked and juicy steak from one of Michelin-rated restaurants and wander why ? Yes, this is the result of Sous Vide cooking —their secret weapon to guarantee that the food will NEVER be over-cooked. Of course, Sous Vide is not a new concept for commercial cooking and of course they have all sorts of gauges to make it happen.  But now, Signature Kitchen suite just introduced  this cool way of cooking to residential cooking .

So how does Signature Kitchen Suite built-in Sous vide work?

There are 4 steps:

STEP 1

Fill your water bin to the recommended level and set your temperature and time to your desired doneness.

Step 2:

Season according to the recipe and seal your food in a high-grade bag with the vacuum sealer we’ve provided as a gift-with-purchase with your product registration.

sks_sous_vide_step_2_816x500.jpg

Step 3:

Place the bag into the water bath and cook according to your desired time and temperature. Don’t worry, it’s nearly impossible to overcook food with sous vide.

SKS Sous Vide Step 3_816x500.jpg

STEP 4

Remove from the bag and finish on both sides with a quick sear on a cast iron skillet on our Ultra-HighTMheat gas burners, or on your gift-with-purchase induction grill plate over the dual-zone induction burners.
