We came across an article this morning about Elle Decor Cafe 2020 in Plaza Hotel New York and immediately fell in love with the unique decor that is modern, youthful, feminine and chic yet still keeping a old-world charm. Not surprisingly, the make-over design work is by renowned interior designer Sasha Bikoff whose design, in our opinion, is very UN-American—out-of-box, playful, chic and romantic in a very lady-like way. Since today is Friday, we want to talk about the design of this pretty cafe and hope to bring some weekend cheers to you.
The ELLE Decor Café at the Plaza is located at the famed Rose Club, which was once a popular venue for entertainers like Billie Holiday, Bob Hope, Liza Minnelli, and Kay Thompson. Along with showcasing her passion for energetic, global-inspired interiors, Bikoff reimagined the iconic space to reflect its rich jazz roots.
1. color Palette: “Since the Plaza is such a happy, colorful, monumental place, it was really important that I used a light color. We did have these more traditional jewel tones, but I wanted to brighten up the space with pink and lavender to balance all of the wood paneling. One really wonderful thing is that the ceiling lights can turn purple, so it worked out perfectly that I had a fabric that was red (a connection to the Rose Club) and lavender (a connection to the lights on the ceiling).”—Sasha Bikoff

We love the interplay between pink and rouge to create such a happy and romantic atmosphere.
