Organic, natural, relaxing and comfy are the words that came on our mind when we came across Jessica Alba’s new home in Los Angeles on internet. It is not s surprise since she is the co-founder of the Eco-friendly mega-brand The Honest Co., the company which is based entirely on thoughtfully produced, safe products. Here are some of our favorite highlights.

We came across an article on Architect Digest this morning talking about the renovation of a prewar apartment channeling old-School New York. We fell in love with this newly remodeled NYE home immediately thanks to its muted pearl-on-pearl color palette. This soothing off white color palette with subtle shimming pearl undertone creates a very calming and elegant atmosphere through the house. Because the home owner and design team have kept some of its classical bone, we are please to see eye-pleasing classical design details at the mantle, bathroom and kitchen …etc. So, today, we are going to use this NYE pre-war apartment makeover as a before-and-after case study to share our take-aways on small-space makeover.
1. Choose a warm light neutral color palette.
The colorful books on the white bookcase, the dark brown and black on the dining furniture and light fixture anchor and elevate the space.
2. Dining and Living Area.
Before:
Before: dining room and living room are 2 separate small rooms without smooth flow.
After:
The design team combined the dining and living rooms to form one larger space.
This is a small apartment about 1,200-square-foot s featured a restrictive layout, and lacked the unique character. So the design team decided to focused on simplifying the home’s layout by combining the dining and living rooms to form one larger space. Additionally, three elegant archways were installed to encourage a sense of symmetry. And you can see one of the archways from the above picture. The pearl-on-pearl color palette here reflects the classic vibe of the apartment and also serves as a perfect backdrop for modern furniture and furnishings. We love several textures inter-playing at this space—elegant marble, wool area rug , soft linen fabric on the sofa, wood frames on the furniture and polished chrome metal legs of the marble dining table. The oversized black artwork anchors and elevates the space while an one-of-the-kind mid-century modern chandelier over the dining table is a huge wow factor.

2. Kitchen
Before:
A tiring and dated small kitchen
After:
An custom Moroccan Tadelakt plaster backsplash adds a touch of old-world charm to this newly modernized light-filled space.
Storage was shifted to one side of the kitchen so the other side could remain airy.
You can tell that the old kitchen was tired and dark. So one of the successful strategies to renovate a small and dark kitchen to make it bigger and brighter is to streamline the layout first. We have done that many times. The design team for this NYE project got rid of wall cabinets on the stove side which really helps open the kitchen and keep the storage on another side with adding tall cabinets. We love the old-world charm Tadelakt plaster on the stove side. And the French vintage range adds a dose of glamor to the kitchen. in order to enlarge the kitchen visually, lighter wide oak planks replaced original narrow busy wood flooring. So our suggestion here is L: don’t be afraid to use large wood planks or large-format tiles in a small space. They actually dramatically make the space looks a lot of bigger and UN-fussy.

3. Bathroom
Before:
a cramped bathroom with a French classical bone.
After:
The issue for the old bathroom is that the space is a little bit cramped. In order to guarantee the comfy of usinh this bathroom, the best strategy in this kind of situation is propally to re-figure the layout if the budget is allowed. The design team created a wet zone with separated shower and tub. Then, we feel this bathroom is a breathable space. We love the idea of changing black frames of the window to white. The white window frames together with newly added white-framed panels open and light up the upper space of the bathroom while the black hexagon mosaic tiles anchor this space.

4. Fireplace.
We don’t have the before photo for the fireplace. But we really love how the design team did this fireplace—the beautiful Calacatta marble on the surrounding of the fireplace, a muted color palette, and a custom artwork that actually hides away a TV. We are usually not a big fan of any cabinet or panels that are designed to hide away a TV. But this project is different. The artwork quietly seamlessly blends in the wall. It is so minimal and sleek. You couldn’t tell it actually hide away a TV if you are not told so.

One of the fun things we love to do at home is to sit around the dining table with candles on and soft music on at the end of the day. We feel we really need this to wind down each day and to get ready for a good-night sleep. we also love to put up a festive themed tabletop on each holiday since we celebrate almost every holiday as much as we can. Besides kitchen, a dining room is the place where people get together with families and friends for formal parties or casual gatherings all the time. So, the design of a dining room is really important for you to enjoy by yourself to the maximum and nourish your loving relationships. And you want this space to be unique and reflect your own personality and of course well designed. Today we are going to talk about 12 ways to devise a one-of-the-kind dining room.
1. Decide function first. Before you start the design process, you need to know how you would like to use this space—a formal dining or a casual gathers only? The way how you want to use the space will set the foundation for the design process.
Alex Papachristidis’s dining room for last spring’s Kips Bay Decorator Show House in New York incited a frenzy on social media—so much so that even the interior designer, a bit of an Instagram sensation himself with more than 52,000 followers, was surprised. Still, he’d expected the room to make an impression. “That’s what you do with a showhouse: You go wild,” he says. “People want to be wowed.”
Although the dining room is getting more casual and relaxed, still, most of home owners still want to make their dining room very formal with a big wow factor. If this the case, the striking artwork, unique wall-treatment, flooring, right light fixtures, one-of-the-kind furnishings and upscale custom furniture might be the options for you to consider. In this New Yorker Designer Alex Papachristidis designed dining room, the light-grey-colored hand-painted wallpaper is one of the key features for this stunning sumptuous dining room. Also the gilded Louis XVI dining chairs really stand out from the muted almost monogram color palette. The crystal chandelier, the gilded clock further emphosis the wow factor and luxury feel. So our suggestions here to crrate a formal dining room: invest in a good-quality dining table setting and choose furnishings to compliment the dining table setting.

2. Have a focal point.
The trick here is to make the table the center of attention, so that your guests are compelled to take a seat and dinner companions are the main focus. Once the table is situated, arrange all other furnishings and accessories so that they complement this focal point. Also read this article on tables-capes.
We love this refined combined with rustic look. It’s truly a lay-back space with a high style thanks to the comfy slippery chair, the rustic wood table and floral wallpaper.
The pink fresh roses on the table , soothe blue fabric on the dining chairs and plushy pillows on the banquette create such a calming dining setting to invite you to take a seat.
The wasabi-wasabi like chandelier and the long wood table are casual, relaxing with a big style.
Aren’t you thrilled to be invited to sitting around this polish dining setting.

3. Gold bold with colors and surface treatments.
Unique colors and textures completely transform a space by creating interesting textures and surfaces in the major horizontal planes: the floor, the table, and the ceiling.
This high-gloss bright blue wall finish makes this dining room stand out .
We love the silver-leaf ceiling treatment which looks elegant and bounce light around.
a scenic tapestry on the wall can be a conversation starter.
4. Mix and Match.
Mixing and matching furnishings, lighting, or artwork is a fun part to design your dining room. It often creates unexpected result and makes the style of the space timeless.
In this space, six neutral dining chairs are contrasted by two zebra print armchairs.
We love how the tradition crystal chandelier contrasts with super modern dining table and chairs to make the space so fresh and fashion-forward.
This minimalism chandelier makes the traditional dining room decor look so fresh and interesting.
Again, the mid-century modern chandilioer inject playfuness to this traditional dining room.
The gold modern chandelier brings youthfulness to a traditional dining room.
5. Always looking for custom furnishings.
We assume you want to have a dining room unlike any other. So please always look for custom furnishings. A one-of-a-kind table or unique chairs will help a dining room stand out. The custom, live-edge wood table is the focal point of this space

Well, we hope you can enjoy your Friday like this lady in the video:
Couple of days ago, i wrote about Lee Radzwill’s (March 3rd 1933–Feb. 15th 2019)New York apartment. You can click here to read the story. Lee Radzwill is a former European princess and actress, socialite, interior decorator, sister of the late Jacqueline Lee Bouvier Kennedy Onassis (1994). She owned properties in New York, London and Paris. Each home really reflects her personalities as a style icon. Today, I am going to show you her Paris pied-à-terre, her love at first sight. Overlooking Avenue Montaigne with a view of the Eiffel Tower, the home was originally decorated by Christian Liaigre, it is perhaps one of the most iconic Parisian abodes of the 20th century. Her Paris home was featured three times on magazines, Vogue in 2003, ELLE Decor in 2009 and Times in 2013 and it had being evolved each time.
Lee Radziwill in her Paris apartment. Photographed by Mario Testino, Vogue, August 2003Elle Decor, 2009
We can see the style in her Paris apartment is very different from her New York home. As herself said of her New York apartment :” but it’s extremely full. So it’s wonderful to have the contrast [in Paris] of having it totally Zen, totally peaceful. In what other city do you find doves outside your window…” All of the furniture in her Paris home is clean-lined, yet there are gilded antique mirrors, gilded coffee tables, floral upholstery ,tons of artworks and books and a lot of detailed soft touches. Her interiors are just like the way she dressed—modern , elegant and chic, yes American chic.
Elle Decor 2013. Don’t you love these chinoiserie patterned fabric? This is her favorite Chinoiserie Le Manach fabric which brings the soul, feminity and elegance to the room. This is the real-estate photo when the house was put on sale several years ago.Another real-estate photo when the house was put on sale several years ago.Obviously, pink is her favorite color. With a large amount of creams and whites in the back ground, mixed patterns of stripes, chinoiserie played off with pink on the sofa.. It is just such an elegant and peaceful place you want to wind down.Again, pink, stripe pattern, plant artworks, florals, neutrals for the background and the sunshines… I would love to just sit here for the whole day watching doves flying by.Chic, chic, chic…A true style icon.
Today’s mood—a little bit of colors, a lot bit of pattern, a little bit of mix-and-match, a little bit of French; a lot of of natural lights, flowers and greens.
It’s Monday again. Luckily, the temperature in LA lowers 10 degree. It’s only 90 degree. I know. But if you head the news, LA was over 100 degree over the weekend. It was kind of crazy. Since today’s weather is better, I am in the mood to post something nice. We are in the middle of finishing this room make-over. The details will follow. Here is the sneak peek.
