Happy Valentine’s Day

Guys, Happy valentine’s Day!  It has been raining whole day here in Los Angeles.  It’s a perfect day to enjoy my little world of romance on this raining day. Yet I wish everyone out there safe and stay out of the rain.

I am still in the process to work out our spring collections in fashion, home and art.  It has been a a fun journey so far. Spring is all about hope, freshness, flowers, greenery,  everything beautiful in mother nature.  I have been inspired by nature and by all of the new designs in 2019 everyday. For the vignette I created for Valentine’s Day, it is about all of these—fun, romantic and boho chic:

Holiday ShowHouse of KHK Designs 2018—2019

It might be a little bit late to post our Holiday ShowHouse 2018–2019.  But come on, it’s still Jan of 2019 and Chinese New year is coming.  So it’s time to be festive and it’s time to celebrate.

The inspiration of our Holiday ShowHouse 2018—2019 is inspired by Pantone Color of the Year 2019–Live Coral—fashionable, bold, youthful, energetic and innovative.  After several years of muted color palettes, millennium pink and grey, we feel it is time to break through to celebrate holidays with something fresh. Therefore, we are able to stay prospective for the future.  Meanwhiles, Holidays are truly about traditions. We mix and match traditions with modern, Live Coral with vintage pink, emerald green with hot pink, camel with purple, Chinoiserie accessories with minimalism furniture, geometric patterns with classic forms and fine crystals with organic ceramic.   The end result of this year’s holiday show house decoration is fun, edgy, playful  yet still elegant and sort of traditional.  Enjoy!

Before and After—Minimulism vs. Maximalism

I am so happy to read an article in the WSJ that “After decades of stark, formulaic interiors, design is giving way to maximalism—a luxurious riot of color and pattern.” You can read this article right here

A powder room is where you wow your guests.  This powder room features pink designer wallpaper, pale blue wainscot panelings, crown moldings, a Waterworks washstand, gilded Louis XVI gilded gold leaf mirror, a custom upholstered floral petite chair, modern marble floor and framed artworks.  The mix-and-match approach of layers, patterns and objects make the space intrigue, elegant and sophisticated.  The transformation from minimalism to maximalism truly deliver a big wow!

Chinese New Year through the Looking Glass

One of the best things about Chinese New Year is that there is 7 days to celebrate.  And  today is the 3rd day.

One of the traditions about Chinese New year is to burn incenses to worship ancestors and pray for the best for the new year.  The experience is just absolutely beautiful.

For this year, we created a series of interiors featured with Chinese antique and Chinoiserie styles to celebrate the year of the rooster.  For this particular  dining set in the following video, the inspiration comes from the tradition that Chinese burn incenses to worship the kitchen god on the 3rd day of the Festival.  The set features with antique Huanghuali arm chairs, Ming dining table, pagoda chandelier chinoiserie wallpaper and Louis XVI gilded mirror.

A Mix-and-Match Living Room

From beginning of the year, we truly have fun to mix and match the room designs for the projects.  There are several key factors to bring everything together with harmony in a depth:

  1. Repeat the color palette to get the flow going.
  2. Use same colors but in different shades.
  3. Use same colors but in different textures.
  4. Laying the room to bring interest and depth to the room.
  5. Always pick up colors from area rugs or artworks for the rest of furnishings.
  6. Muted neutrals provide the best backdrop.

Here is a living room we just designed.  The patterns, textures and colors in the artwork is the key to inspire the overall decor.
