5 Ways to Decorate an Entry Hallway

Entry Hallway by KHK Design
Entry Hallway by KHK Design

It’s a fresh week again.  A grand entry at your home means a good Fengshui and a great start.  We all agree that the hallway definitely makes the first impression and sends the message about who you are.  Today, I am going to share 5 ways to decorate an entry by sharing this new hallway make-over project we just did.

  1. An elegant furniture set makes the focal point and defines the sophistication of the space. For this traditional house, we use more modern  yet still-classy furniture to contrast the old style and bring freshness into the space.
  2. A right color palette make guests feel pleasant and welcome. The ivory, coral, pink and black color palette in this foyer creates formal yet relaxing and soft atmosphere.
  3. A  runner pulls guests eyes down to the floor and draws guests to the house.  The bird-pattened  runner here adds more visual interest.
  4. A chandelier over the display table in the foyer talks to the whimsical runner and is the must for the estate like this.
  5. Pink rose arrangement on the table means Welcome.

I hope you enjoy the above tips.

Tuesday Transformation

It’s Tuesday transformation case study again.  Here is the project we did 2 years ago—the notch area.  This recessed area is just opposite the powder room.  There is not that much day light.  The purpose after transformation is to impress the guests once they exit the powder room.  Here are 4 steps we took to make it very stylish.

Before
Before
  1. Tile the whole recessed wall with light-yellow floral tiles to create an artsy and playful backdrop.

duringprocess  2.Install gilded gold-leaf mirror to light up the space and add a touch of elegancy.

3.Have a modernized regency console sit against the wall. The same style bench completes the look.

4.A yellow Murano glass bowel with red roses  serves as jewelries in this notch area.

Suddenly, the whole area transformed to a well-dressed lady.

It’s Monday again. Luckily, the temperature in LA lowers 10 degree.  It’s only 90 degree.  I know.   But if you head the news, LA was over 100 degree over the weekend. It was kind of crazy.  Since today’s weather is better, I am in the mood to post something nice.  We are in the middle of finishing this room make-over. The details will follow. Here is the sneak peek.

5 Steps to Transform a Space with High Style

#Thowbackthursday today! Here is the project we finished last year. The original office was kind of plain and no well-advised furniture plan. The furniture client had was really bulky for the space and maybe too traditional. The goal to transform this space is to make it more energetic, youthful and light. Here are the steps we did:

1. Install geometric graphic wallpaper on the focal wall. The fresh vivid pattern and colors immediately light up the whole space and make it more upscale.

2. The original space had too much wood furniture crowded together  to make it look really heavy. Rather we chose a glossy  lacquer-finished orange writing table and a black-white French console  to make it very delightful, fashionable,  youthful yet functional enough!  The whole space now feel much airy and  bigger.

3. We had chosen this black-and-white artwork on the wall to contrast with the new bright colors and add another layer to the room. Also, the artwork is able to talk to the black-white console.

4. Two pink-pleated crystal chanderliers  make the space very elegant and feminie.

5. Style the desk and chest with flowers. Flowers fresh up the space immediately.

I hope you enjoy this little project tour.

5 Tips to Create an Elegant Home Office

Honestly, it does require a vision to make things happen specially you are among the chaos for a make-over project.  The office space here is not that really big and in a very old building. It does have an interesting architecture bone.  In order to keep project cost low, we just removed old wallpaper and exposed the old brick walls to keep its originality.  The result is quite amazing!  Here are the major design features:

The powder room is really not that big at all: 72″ x 72″. The renovation idea is to make it as stylish as possible in such a small space. Design features include:

1. Neutral yet high gloss large-format tiles on the floor and wall open the space.

2. The color scheme of crisp white, gray and cream with a touch of gold and blush creates low-tone luxury atmosphere.

3. Large floral mosaic on the side wall and the same pattern insert on the focal wall are truly the drama in an elegant way.

4. Artwork  with the gold frame makes the room interesting.

5. Having a little blush vanity chair in the corner is very inviting.

The fantasy comes true.

8 Steps to Transform a living Room

before

after-2

The house is located in West LA. The client bought it last year and decided to give it a face-lift without too much construction going on. Even though the house was in a shabby condition, it has a very good bone. We decided to keep most of its original structures.  Modern classic  is what we  came up with and we believe the style will truly reflect client’s taste. Here are the major features we did for the living room:

1.  Replaced the original carpet with dark walnut wood flooring to ground the room with a timeless classic style.

2. Removed the drop ceiling to make the space airy.

3. Installed wall panels and painted them in Tiffany Blue—fashionable yet classy.  All moldings and trims were also painted in Tiffany Blue.  Applying the same color on the trims and walls will unify the whole room and create tranquil backdrop for the later furnishings.

4. Installed new marble mantle.  The color and the vein on the marble are  kind of talking to the rest furnishings.

5. Applied different shades and textures of cream and gray on furniture to layer the space without tiring eyes.

6. Furnishing the room with modern pieces such as the art over the fireplace and  tailored light-gray roman shades.

7. The big floral pattern on the area rug contrasts with all neutrals and adds a sense of playfulness.

8. Fresh floral arrangements and green plants bring the life into the space.

Please let us know what you think.  If you are interested in getting the whole room  look or any pieces we used here, please email  us at y.a.hong@hotmail.com.

Thank You
