5 Ways to Create a Casual and Stylish Spring Tabletop at Home

Hope you celebrated green and had a wonderful St. Patrick’s Day yesterday.  We always love St. Patrick’s day not because it’s fun and cool, also because it is usually the time for us to kick off the season of Spring entertaining. Specially after the several times of raining showers, everything in our garden just starts blooming.  So, of course, inspired by the warm and clear sunshine and beautiful blooms in our garden, we decided to have a causal in-home celebration by cooking comfy Irish beef stew and put up an organic spring-theme tabletop to enjoy.  You may want to do the same thing too,  but may be just intimated by the complicated task and think maybe the other time.  Well, life is about celebrating every moment.  We are celebrating by doing and engaging as much as we can.  Therefore, it is much more fun for memories and does excise your creative muscles a lot.  But there are some simple ways to make in-home entertaining much less a daunted task.  Here are 7 tips we would love to share to make spring entertaining fun, simps and stylish.

  1. Just go to the outdoor and go to your backyard  garden.  You will be inspired by nature a lot and make you desire to bring nature to home.  Since our garden is blooming, we just got everything from the garden—grass, roses, wild flowers, branches, herbs…

We always love to incorporate some elegant textiles for the table top.

2. Please don’t wrap up your fine china and put them away at somewhere you even cannot find.  Yes, please display your chinaware at the place you can easily see. Therefore, you always want to use them.

3. Plan,plan,plan.  Write down the theme and food you would like to serve.  For St. Patrick’s day table top, we wanted to celebrate the season of spring, so we had  a lot of green-leaf veggies and in-season colorful root veggies.  The next is to prepare the menu. For ours menu is mainly  Irish beef stew with some green veggie cakes and green-leaf salad.  We actually cooked the beef stew a night before in a slower cooker.

Guinnes is the key for comfy Irish stew to make the soup yummy and rich-flavored.   Our main ingridients also include grass-feed beef and grass-feed butter.

4. Well, just sit back and enjoy.

5. Take time to take the photos for what you just do and you will be inspired to host next party.

Maximalism in 2018

It’s finally Friday and its grey, cloudy and overcast in LA.  I thought the rain is coming but Siri said no.  Anyway, it will be a perfect day to cuddle at home, doing some heavy readings and just gathering all of my thoughts together.   I came across some topics on interior trends in 2018.   One of the trends that everybody is talking  about is Maximalism.  I talked about Maximalism in one of my blog last year and it seems that this trend  is going to mainstream in 2018.  For me, Maximalism is so inevitable after several-years of Kondoing and Scandinavia minimalism.  It gives you a such big release and freedom to express yourself.  When you start to see a lot of colors, patterns , textures and adoring objects, you truly feel happy from inside.

First of all, here is the food.  This is one of of the events we went recently.  Don’t you just love these colorful veggies?

And here is the tabletop I just did for our MLK weekends.  Don’t you agree with me—the more the merrier?

Here are some great plates and linens with patter-on-pattern Maximalism style.

Then here is the art event we went recently.  It’s Pip & Pop’s debut US installation entitled “Here Comes Sunshine”.   The installation is constructed by highly detailed works that embrace notions of abundance, utopian dreams and fleeting pleasure.  The installation made me feel so happy for the whole night.

Last but not else, here are some great Maximalism interiors I really enjoy.

Restyling—Before & After

It’s summer time.  Wouldn’t you agree with me that there is always a lot of fun   to change a little bit here and there in home ?  Truly, life is really about living every day beautifully.  For this restyling project in the video, we did several changes:

  1. change the wall color to millennium pink;
  2. change the drapery;
  3. change the carpet
  4. add tray on the ottoman;
  5. add flowers on the side table.

Enjoy!

Mother’s Day Home Decor Series

Mother’s day is just several days away.  We have created  the beautiful interior vignettes to honor this special holiday to cherish motherhood, femininity, generosity, gentleness, kindness, care  and love.  Mother Teresa said : “Mother is the heart of the home.”   We believe that home is a place that makes us feel beautiful and loved.   The color palette of  the vignette we created below is pastels mixed with a pop of saturated colors and neutral tones to express femininity , passion and gentleness.

High Tea, Please—My Backyard Pre-Christmas Outdoor Party

Today’s LA weather is very nice–warm sunshine and a little bit of breeze.  With Christmas around corner, I think it will be a perfect time to set up an outdoor table top and have a little bit high tea on this beautiful weekend sunny afternoon in Dec. Yes, we are just lucky enough to still be able to  host a backyard outdoor party in Dec. My inspiration for today’s setup came from the designer floral fabric I  got a year ago.  I really like the elegant pattern of the fabric and always think  how  I should use this fabric for my next decor project.  It looks like today is a day.  The fabric will be perfect to cover  my little French table  for today’s outdoor party setup. It’s British, whimsical, floral and really mimics the garden.   So, here we go:

It’s high tea time.

Here are 5 ways to host your backyard outdoor high tea party:

  1. Just do it.
  2. Start small—a small table, a fine table cloth will help you start the project.
  3. Always keep your eye on antique tea cups—they are the Queen for your party.
  4. Have fresh flowers.
  5. Order macaron cookies in different colors.

Thursday Floral Time

Happy almost Friday!   We are in the middle of the process of choosing some fabric for a custom sofa for the client.  European velvet and checkered pattern fabric will be on my top list.    But by now, time for some champaign, tea and roses.

Friday Vibes

IMG_7982.jpg

Maybe because it’s almost end of August, we start to be drawn to more saturated colors.  Anyway, a quick tip for creating a chic vignette—always incorporate one or two pieces of brass objects to create fresh, cheerful, happy, classy and modern vibes.

A Stylish Home Office

Today’s mood color palette is blue-and-white because summer is still here and we want to enjoy every bit of  it.  Here is the home office we recently did:

  1. Blue-and-white color theme for staying cool in the heat of the summer.
  2. Mix of mid-century and classic through the patterns and forms to make the space fresh, interesting and timeless.
  3. A touch of gold highlights classic tone of the room.
  4. Channel-back chair is quite trendy in 2016.
