Finally, the rain stops today here in Los Angeles after a whole-week wet weather. And as usual, we start to enjoy sunshine. When the sun shines through the windows, that is when magic happens. We realize it is spring time. Fresh, fashionable and feminine, this the theme for our Spring Story collection in fashion, home and art.
Today is the last day of August! Time just flies so fast. It seems we just welcomed 2017 yesterday. Then there are only 4 months to go for 2017. Maybe it is a good time to reflect a little bit and look ahead to see what’s new and what excited next year. From today, we will blog home and color trends of 2018 from different painting companies and home decor brands.
Dunn Edwards predicates that 2018 is about celebrations, individuality, tech, digital, finding happiness in small things, etc…
It’s summer time. Wouldn’t you agree with me that there is always a lot of fun to change a little bit here and there in home ? Truly, life is really about living every day beautifully. For this restyling project in the video, we did several changes:
It’s fun, fun, fun to host our own Sunday brunch at home because we can control what we put in the mouth and specially, it’s the beginning of the summer time and the weather is so nice. What we do have a lot now are floras and greeneries. Peonies are in the season in LA. So there is no reason not to go big on greenery and floral table decor. But I rather do them in a very organic and simple way. Here is the video we shot for one of our weekend brunch tabletop.
I hope you enjoy watching the video. Here are 3 take-aways for an elegant yet casual tabletop setting:
Have a lot of greeneries accentuated by in-season flowers.
Have a main color theme for the table-setting—we used blue-and-white in the video—the perfect color palette to celebrate the beginning of the summer.
Just schedule time to do it over the weekend. You are going to enjoy it a lot!
After a long and busy week day, we want to come back home that provides refuge, and comfort. It’s a place that we can chill out and relax in a style. One of The kitchen trends today is to create live-in feeling in the kitchen, which often incorporates built-in banquette seating to make a kitchen a secondary living room. The kitchen we designed in the video features with Moroccan tiles, antique Louis XVI chairs, custom built-in banquette, a mid-century wood table and modern brass chandelier… etc. Mixing and matching of different styles infuses playful yet elegant vibes to this urban kitchen.
As fashion shows go on, we are inspired and love to get the looks from Run-way to Hallway. And also, we do have Fall in Los Angeles. As the foliages in the whole world start to change the colors, we also crave for the feeling that make us feel unique, warm, romantic, strong, matured and homy. So what came my mind is the color combination of tangerine and dark blue.
After those pastels and cool beach colors dominated the whole summer, this combination of warm and cool saturated colors suddenly brings us a drama. It’s modern and chic. It makes a very strong statement. This is the case study how we used this fashion combination colors in recent country-style design project and make the place pleasant and livable.
Here are 5 steps to create this fashionable dining room look:
Choose what inspired us most and make it as the start point. In this project, it’s the color combination of tangerine and blue. It’s such an interesting contrast for this country barn-style room.
Paint walls and the ceiling neutral colors as the calm backdrop for the future furnishings and pops of tangerine and blue.
Mix-and-match the style— have the modern clean-line furniture to give the room a fresh and youthful loom.
4. Chinoiserie on the screen and geometric patterns on the rug and Roman shades balance the energy between Yin and Yang, feminine and masculine.
5. Abstract artworks just leave the imagination of whoever enters the room wide open.
When September is here, we start to feel the fall. One of the decor styles that has inspired me in the last several weeks is Bohemian style, the style featured with bright colors & patterns, cozy seatings, artsy mix-and-match and vibrant textiles. Aren’t those we love natural beauty for the fall? Then we had this design project and it is a country house. There are exposed beams and stone walls which make house look very organic. And the house is filled with natural light. The client wants to keep the original country style but wants the house look have fresh and updated rather than too heavy and traditional. The client likes bright colors and feminine touches. Here we go— a chic bohemian country style for her. Here for 6 ways how we create the look:
Paint all walls light gray and all trims and ceilings bright white to create a modern clean and crisp backdrop for the later vibrant furnishings and bouncing around light while still keep the stone walls and exposed beams. The contrast of the old and new gives the whole house a very fresh looking.
Have petite upholstered furniture spread around the house such as chairs and ottomans in jewelry tones to give it a sophisticated and feminine touch.
Have bright Moroccan area rugs in the house for the vibrant vibe.
Have unmatched bohemian draperies to make the whole space whimsy, playful and elegant.
Artsy arrangement of modern artworks on the fireplace and walls.
It’s a fresh week again. A grand entry at your home means a good Fengshui and a great start. We all agree that the hallway definitely makes the first impression and sends the message about who you are. Today, I am going to share 5 ways to decorate an entry by sharing this new hallway make-over project we just did.
An elegant furniture set makes the focal point and defines the sophistication of the space. For this traditional house, we use more modern yet still-classy furniture to contrast the old style and bring freshness into the space.
A right color palette make guests feel pleasant and welcome. The ivory, coral, pink and black color palette in this foyer creates formal yet relaxing and soft atmosphere.
A runner pulls guests eyes down to the floor and draws guests to the house. The bird-pattened runner here adds more visual interest.
A chandelier over the display table in the foyer talks to the whimsical runner and is the must for the estate like this.
